We would like to thank five year old Gwen for being brave enough to demonstrate the Hanson Reading Phonics Chart System in front of a packed room at the Winter Home School Conference in Layton, Utah January 27th.
Gwen knew the NAMES of the letters and consonant SOUNDS before the demonstration, but was essentially a non-reader. She was promised if she just learned the Hanson CODE Song she would be able to read any word on a page of words she was unable to read at the beginning of the demonstration. She informed us that she did know one word, like!
After learning the CODE Song and reading the first unknown word from the list successfully and further inspired with the applause of the audience, she eagerly was ready for any challenge. She read many more words from the word list.
In about 30 minutes, she could read long-vowel words, short-vowel words and two-syllable words with long and short vowels and was thrilled at being so popular with the audience. A star was born!
It was a delight for all of us to witness the transformation of a hesitant participant to a confident reader, excited to learn more. This is the promise of the Hanson Reading Phonics Chart System. There is nothing like success to motivate children to want to read. The demonstration was just the beginning of a dynamic way to learn how to read from toddlers to chapter books.
Watching another child blossom with success is my reward for years of designing and perfecting the reading system I created, now called the Hanson Reading Phonics Chart System. More practice exercises and over 100 books have been added to go with each progression through the Phonics Chart System so no student is without the practice needed to pass from Chart to Chart. All students love to see how they have progressed and that the end is in sight as they work toward the ninth Chart. In only nine Charts a student will know how to know how to read. The rest of their lives are spent adding more vocabulary and deeper comprehension skills with their life experiences.
My best to you.
